New puppy, now what?

Congratulations on your new puppy!

Annual Visits
To have a happy and healthy pet , your dog needs to receive an annual check-up, Leptospirosis vaccine, Heartworm testing and a stool test each year. The first Rabies vaccine and the first DHPP is a 1 year, and then they given every 3 years. The Lyme vaccine, Influenza vaccine and Bordetella vaccine is given yearly if needed.
Heartworm Disease
Heartworm disease is a parasite that is transmitted by bites from infected mosquitoes. The "microfilaria" then travel to the heart to attach and reproduce. It is a serious disease that is more easily prevented than treated. It is important that we preform a blood test every year and put your dog on monthly heartworm prevention all year long to prevent this disease.

First Visit (6-8 weeks)

  • DHPP vaccine (includes Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus.
  • Heartworm prevention/Dewormer
  • +/- Stool test (bring stool sample with you-must be 24 hours fresh and never frozen)

Third Visit (12-14 weeks)

  • DHPPL vaccine (DHPP vaccine including Leptosporosis)
  • Heartworm prevention/Dewormer
  • +/- Stool test
  • Lyme vaccine
  • Intranasal Bordetella vaccine (Kennel cough)
  • Influenza vaccine

Second Visit (9-11 weeks)

  • DHPP vaccine
  • Heartworm Prevention/ Dewormer
  • +/- Stool test



Fourth Visit (16 weeks +)

  • DHLPP vaccine
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Heartworm prevention/Dewormer
  • +/- Stool test
  • Lyme vaccine
  • Injectable Bordetella vaccine (Kennel cough)
  • Influenza vaccine
  • We recommend spaying (females) and neutering (males) at 6 months of age.
